KATE MACALISTER
Poet and Social Justice Witch
KATE MACALISTER
"When we tell our stories, share them with each other, we realise we are not alone. We begin to see the system behind violence and inequality. They are the connection to take action."
Writer, social justice witch and survivor Kate MacAlister discovered the art of writing as a healing ritual many years ago. Her poems conjure spell-binding images of intricate inner worlds and the struggles in our contorted society. She tells stories inspired by her work. Whether it is her work in the hospital or fighting the patriarchy: above all these are stories about human connection and the dreams of revolution.
there is beauty
in a revolution
quivering
in the silent places
of the world
I can’t hear it anymore
trapped in that night
by the riverside
when
I asked you to
lay your fingers
in all my wounds
and watch
them bloom
- evening prayer

OAKTOWN
10 th December 2020
Having spent the last year focusing her research and art on the topic of climate change and it's catastrophic consequences by taking part in a collaboration 'Re-writing, Re-righting Cassandra'
with activists, writers and artists from all over the world, Kate has been trying to find insightful responses to the UN-statement stating that humanity has 12 years left to get a grip and save the climate. She committed to this after seeing how a big coal corporation destroyed one of the last ancient forests of Europe - Hambacher Forst- and how only the united strength of dedicated activists and civil disobedience could save what was left of it. "Oaktown" is a reflection of this mind shattering experience.
